We have had two kids, at different ages and stages in their learning journey, be assessed by Jenny Weeks.  I found Jenny to be communicative and flexible when booking in assessment times.  Jenny's friendly approach had our children quickly respond and feel comfortable with her during their assessments - one even said it was lots of fun!  The reports are thorough and Jenny always offers space to process them on our own, then provides the option to catch up and help us as parents interpret and understand the report.

Thank you Jenny for your obvious care and support to our family.

2024 was a great year for our son, he had the privilege of meeting Jenny and getting to the bottom of his learning frustrations. This all began a few years earlier when we noticed that it was harder for him to learn early reading and writing compared to his same aged peers and his older sister, we spoke to the school and they reassured us that he was doing ok and was learning through structured literacy and that was the best thing for someone finding these language skills tricky. Fast forward to the start of year 4, although we never shared our concerns with him, he began noticing that he wasn’t able to learn in the same way as his friends and was starting to feel particularly frustrated with learning writing and spelling. After a meeting with school and finally getting them on board with thinking something was amiss we spoke with Jenny about our concerns and she thought it was a good idea to go through with some formal testing and see if we could work out what was going on with this very intelligent, competent reader who was struggling so very much with writing and spelling. Jenny emailed through pre assessment questionnaires for us and the school to fill in and send back to her. Once she had this information we tee’d up a couple of mornings so that we could have our boy and Jenny work together to go through the formal testing. Our son loved meeting Jenny. Her lovely, warm, friendly and interested personality quickly got him onside, he felt comfortable to do the testing without us in the room and I could hear his laughter from the otherside of the door. How could all this testing be so fun I wondered! Jenny was responsive and respectful of his needs, stopping for snack and drinks breaks and he eagerly skipped off with her again to carry on the testing. During this experience Jenny helped him recognise his intelligence and was able to support him through the more challenging aspects of testing in a very encouraging way. After collecting all of this information Jenny then went away and analysed the data before sending a thorough and comprehensive report back to us. The report was wonderfully detailed and we were able to clearly see and understand where and why our son was having the trouble he was with his school work. Jenny consulted with her colleagues to confirm her findings and diagnosed our son with Stealth dyslexia and dysgraphia - at last we had our answers. The information she provided helped us understand how we could support the neurodiversity in him with such positive advice and clear guidelines. This information has helped make learning smoother, and taught us how we can best advocate for him in the schooling system. The teachers at his school really appreciated the report and immediately implemented changes to their approaches with him and within the classroom as a result of Jenny’s suggestions. Overall our son walked away a more self assured and confident kid because of the care Jenny took with him. He understands how his brain works and why some things are more difficult and also why he needs to do more practice in some areas as well. All in all, we loved working with Jenny and will be back to do further testing as our boy grows and moves through the schooling system to ensure we are best able to advocate for him and support him into the future.

Thanks

Katherine
